The Comet was the first jet airliner ever. After some crashes that originated in material stress, the Comet was redesigned and was as the Comet 4 in service up to the late 70ies. The Comet is the platform for the sea surveillance system Nimrod too.

The 707 was designed by Boeing as the model 367, a long range airliner. The 707-320 was a combined passenger- and freight airliner. The 707 has been in service from the 50ies to the lat 80ies in many variations worldwide.

The Beverly was developed from the General Aircraft GAL 60 Universal Transport, with more powerful engines. 47 Beverlies were build and in service with the Royal Airforce from 1956 to 1968.

The Hansa Jet was designed as a multipurpose jet aircraft. The wings are swept forward. Some 40 were build.

 
 

Antonov AN 26, Russia, 1965 , medium transport 

 

Designed as a military transport, the ramp door and the fuselage is big enough to house a big limousine or a small military truck. The An26 has got an auxi- liary jet engine in the starboard engine nacelle that enables it to take off with full load even on higher altitudes.

 
 

DeHavilland Canada DHC 6 Twin Otter, United Kingdom, 1965 , Commuter aircraft 

 

The twin Otter is in service as a transport and passenger-airliner, in various military roles and as a fire fighter. It has some STOL capabilites and is therefore used by "bush pilots", for example in latin america.

The BAe Jetstream is a development of the Handley Page HP137 which was designed in the 60ies. Jet- streams are in use as civil commuters and short range airliners, military transports and training aircraft.

The Boeing 7373 is one of the most popular airliners ever produced. Since its maiden flight the 737 has been modified to different subtypes. So the 737 is a family of types with some of its members still pro- duced in the 90ies.

The Jumbo Jet was designed as a wide body airliner on intercontinental routes. More than 25 years she was the unquestioned queen on these routes. Some of the Jumbos were on military duty as transports and flying command posts (like Air Force One). Some 837 were build. (drwg. 747-400)
