The Albemarle was one of the typical mid size bombers
of that days. In that time a considerable shortage on a
numer of materials was suffered, so the design came
along mostly with steel and wood. Besides it's roles as
a bomber and tactical reconnaissance plane, several
other roles have been covered.

The JU 52 was designed as an airliner, similar to the
DC 3's role and it was quite successful. During the
war the JU 52 became the standard transport and was
used throughout the war on every scene. Some have
been build after the war in Spain (Casa) and
France (Amiot)

The C39 is the forerunner of the C47 Dakota.
The hull was from a DC3, the landing gear
from a B18 bomber. Douglas did build 35 which
were used in manz important operations like
the evacuation of the Phillippines and the
airlift to Great Britain.

Derived from the CW20 design. The C46 came
into service with the USAF from July 1942.
In total, US forces accepted 3144 C46, but
other countries had it in service, too.
Commandos became famous for covering
transport tasks in southeast asia. The C46
had a better performance than the famous C47
Dakota, but it was difficult to maintain and
had a relatively high loss rate.

In 1935 the RLM called for a light STOL aircraft.
Fieseler won the contest with the Fi156 against Focke
Wulf, Siebel and Messerschmitt. Fi156 were build and
in use in many countries up to the 50ies. Even today
it's destinctive silhouette can be seen on major
airshows.

still in service in the 90ies. The civil variations
did get the codes C48,C49,C50,C51,C56 and R4D. Mili-
try variations were the C47, C53 and C117.

The York was designed as a long range transport. The
Wings, engines and tail was taken from the Lancaster,
so only the fuselage had to be designed and built.
Nevertheless the York was build in numbers after the
war.

The Lodestar was based on the Lockheed model
18. During the 2nd world war it was used to
transport cargo and personnel. From 1940 on,
the military versions C-56, C-57, C-59 and
C-60 were produced, whereof the C-60A was the
most successful type with 325 built. After
the war, many were sold to private hands for
use as cargo or executive transports.

The Lancastrian long range transport is basically a
converted Lancaster bomber. Bz the end of the second
world war, a large number of Lancaster bombers were
surplus, but te workd was short of transports. So Avro
laid up a conversion for the Lancasters to become long
range fast tramsports.

The Dove was designed as a light transportation and
traininbg aircraft. More than 530 have been build
from 1946 to 1964.
