Originally designed as a basic trainer, the "Kukuruz-
nik" was used in various roles because its forgiving
flight characteristics and its ruggness. It was used
as a night bomber, medevac, for proaganda purposes,
as a partisan supplier and as well as cropduster.
More than 40000 (forty thousand!) have been build.

The O 38 is one of the most well used
observation airplanes (now called
Reconnaissance) of the US Army Air Corps in
the 30ies. They were on duty from 1931, the
last ones being decommissioned in 1941. The
first aircraft to be assigned to a place in
Alaska was an O 38, too.

The O47 was build to replace to older biplane
reconnaissane aircraft O19 and O38. The XO47
was the prototype build by General Aviation,
a branch of North American Aviation
designated the GA15. The Air Corps purchased
147 of them, of which 93 were given to the
Air National Guard. Later, another 74 O47B
were purchased that had changed engine
cowlings. Since the O47 was too large and not
agile enough, thez were used as target tugs,
coastal reconnaissance and sub hunting.

The Do 24 was the most successful flying boat in
germany. During WW II it was in use for long range
reconnaissance, search and rescue and transport. Do
24 were build in germany, the netherlands an france.
Some were in service long after the war. During the
80ies Dornier build the Model ATT.

The Owls was designed as an observation
airplane. TIn 1940 the US Army Air Coprs
purchased 203 of them. But when the US
entered the war, the Owl seemed not to have
the performance neccessary to survive combat,
so it was redesignated as coastal sub hunter
and liaison aircraft.
