1950 - Mikoyan Gurevich MiG 17, Fighter

The MiG17 was directly developed from the MiG 15. Larger and more powerful, it could go supersonic in horizontal flight for a short time. The MiG17 was developed further to fit other than fighter roles like ground attack, fighter bomber, radar directed interceptor etc.

1953 - Mikoyan Gurevich OKB MiG 19 PM, Supersonic fighter

Developed from the smaller MiG 17, the MiG 19 became the first sovjet supersonic jet fighter. Fitted with 2 engines, swept wings and a slightly different aero- dynamic configuration, it became the standard fighter aircraft for some years, until it was relieved by the more powerful MiG21.
