1941 - Gloster E.28/39 "Whittle", Experimental jet aircraft

 

The E.28 was designed to get the Power Jets Ltd. W.1 jet engine, designed by Frank Whittle, airborne for flight testing. The first prototype was destroyed after being fitted with the much stronger W.2 engine. The 2nd prototype survived the flight tests and became a part of the Science Museum.  

 

 

1941 - Gloster E 28/39, Jet driven experimental aircraft

 

 

 

 

1943 - Gloster G. 41 Meteor F.I, Jet-driven fighter

 

The Meteor was the first and only british jet fighter to become operational during the war. It saw action against incoming V1 flying bombs.  

 

 

1960 - Gloster Javelin, All-weather combat aircraft
