Douglas Aircraft Corp.

1928 - Douglas DWC World Cruiser, Long range record breaking aircraft

1930 - Douglas Dolphin, Amphibian multi-purpose aircraft

1930 - Douglas O 38 F, Reconnaissance Aircraft

The O 38 is one of the most well used observation airplanes (now called Reconnaissance) of the US Army Air Corps in the 30ies. They were on duty from 1931, the last ones being decommissioned in 1941. The first aircraft to be assigned to a place in Alaska was an O 38, too.

1934 - Douglas DC 2, Airliner

1935 - Douglas DC 3 A, Airliner

The DC3 was developed from the DC2 and was one of the most successful aircraft. With this type comfortable voyages were possible the first time. The DC3 has no freight door, as the military version C47 has got. C47 has been build in much larger numbers than the DC3.

1936 - Douglas B 18 A Bolo, Bomber and ASW aircraft

The B18 was developed to relieve the aged B10. It was developed from the DC2 transport. The B18 faced in a contest the Martin 146 and the Boeing 299 and won. The US Air Corps purchased 133, lateron additional 217 B18A. IN 1942 the B18 were replaced and used further as transports and sub hunters.

1936 - Douglas C 50, Transport aircraft

1937 - Douglas B 23 Dragon, Medium size bomber

1939 - Douglas C 39 A, Transport Aircraft

The C39 is the forerunner of the C47 Dakota. The hull was from a DC3, the landing gear from a B18 bomber. Douglas did build 35 which were used in manz important operations like the evacuation of the Phillippines and the airlift to Great Britain.

1940 - Douglas A 20 G Havoc, Mid-size bomber

1940 - Douglas A 33, Attack aircraft

1941 - Douglas C 47 A Dakota, Transport Aircraft

The C47 was the military version of the civil DC3. It was build in such huge numbers some of them are still in service in the 90ies. The civil variations did get the codes C48,C49,C50,C51,C56 and R4D. Mili- try variations were the C47, C53 and C117.

1941 - Douglas XB 19 A, Prototype heavy long range bomber / Transport aircraft

1943 - Douglas BTD Destroyer, Torpedo- and dive bomber

1944 - Douglas A 1 J Skyraider, Carrier based ground attack aircraft

The Skyraider was designed during WWII, but was too late to see action. It remained the last and one of the most successful ground attack planes, which could compete with the jet driven bombers of its days. The SPAD was able to get a higher bombload more accurate into the target than any jet. of that time

1944 - Douglas P 70 Havoc Nightfighter, Heavy night fighter
