By end of 1914 Giovanni Caproni designed a three-engine bomber, the Ca 31. It had Gnome rotary engines. In the next year, the design was changed to FIAT inline engines and designated Ca 32. After the first operational experiences, for example athe the austrian Aisovizza, the design was modified again to be the Ca 33. It had the more powerful and reliable Isotta Fraschini engines. The Ca 36 is the last model of this family, designed at the end of the war in 1918. It could be easy disassembled for transport. The Ca 36 remained in service as late as 1929.
