The P12 was one of the most successful
fighter aircraft in the US between the wars.
In both services, Army Air Service and Navy
477 of all versions were in service (P12, -B,
-C, -D, and -E and -F with an all metal
fuselage). Originally, the development of the
P12 was done on the initiative of Boeing.

Boeing P 26 A Peashooter,

The P 26, affectionallz called the
"Peashooter" by it's pilots, was the first
all metall monoplane fighter aircraft to be
flown by the USAAC. It was considerable
faster than other fighter aircraft of it's
time. Due to the high speeds, installation of
flaps was necessary to reduce landing speeds.
Boeing designed the P 26 in 1931, originally
designated the model 248, from december 1931
the XP 936. Maiden flight was on 20.03.1932 .
The USAAC purchased 111 in total, the last
25 being B- and C-models.

The B17 was, together with the B24 Liberator, the
standard bomber of the US Air Force. B17 were seen in
Reports and movies much more often, but with 8400
units build, the B17 had the smaller part of the war
missions.

The B29 was build to follow the B17 and B24. It was
designed for high-altitude missions with remote con-
trolled guns. The Superfortress was in service mostly
in the pacific theatre, where the "Enola Gay" dropped
the first nuclear bomb over Hiroshima.

The B52 is the biggest bombing aircraft in service
with the USAF since it was build in the 50ies. It is
used as a nuclear bomber, as a conventional strategic
bomber, as a tactical low altitude bomber and as a
platform for military and civil missiles and experi-
mental aircraft (X15).

The 707 was designed by Boeing as the model 367, a
long range airliner. The 707-320 was a combined
passenger- and freight airliner. The 707 has been
in service from the 50ies to the lat 80ies in many
variations worldwide.

The 727 was very popular from the 60ies to the 80ies,
until it was follwed by newer Boeing types and the
smaller Airbuses (A310/A320).

The Boeing 7373 is one of the most popular airliners
ever produced. Since its maiden flight the 737 has
been modified to different subtypes. So the 737 is a
family of types with some of its members still pro-
duced in the 90ies.

The Jumbo Jet was designed as a wide body airliner on
intercontinental routes. More than 25 years she was
the unquestioned queen on these routes. Some of the
Jumbos were on military duty as transports and flying
command posts (like Air Force One).

The Super Hornet is the follow-up to the F/A
18 Hornet. from he exterior, it looks very
similar to the Hornet, but it is virtually a
complete new aircraft. It can be distiguished
easily by the position and shape of the air
intakes.
