Airspeed AS 10 Oxford Mk. V

Description:

After the successful AS.6 Envoy, the RAF asked
Airspeed for a larger twin design. The Oxford was
build in large numbers and was one of the standard
trainers at the beginning of the war. It was in use
for training gunnery, bombing, radio, navigation
etc.pp. . 8586 were build.

The Oxford came in some variants by engine and usage:
[Oxford I] 2 Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah IX (335hs) or
Cheetah X. Had an Armstrong Whitworth gun turret on the
back of the hull. [Oxford II] The same engines, but
without the gun turret. Was in use as a radio and
navigation trainer. [Oxford III] More powerful
Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah XV engines (425hs). Used as
a radio and navigation trainer [Oxford IV] Testbed for
the De Havilland Gipsyqueen IV (Gipsy-Six IIIS,
Turbocharged, 6 cylinder inline engine). [Oxford V] Had
2 Pratt & Whitney R 985-AN6 Wasp Junior radial engines.
Radio and navigation trainer.
